Overview
The department of Mental Health Nursing provides excellent service in mental health nursing education research and practice which include comprehensive care in the hospital as well as in the community. The inception of the department took place with the beginning of post graduate courses in Amala College of Nursing in 2012.
The faculty members are actively involved in teaching the undergraduate and post graduate students, guiding them inpatient care and research activities and co-operating various extension programmes along with psychiatric unit in the hospital. The department conducts awareness programmes on mental health related topics in schools and various urban – rural area centres in Thrissur.
Objectives
- To encourage the students to learn and practice their knowledge for the development of practical skills, to become efficient professional mental health nurses as well as remain lifelong learner.
- To develop the skills of UG and PG nursing students in the area of classroom teaching as well as clinical teaching methods to teach our clients and public at large.
- To emphasize the importance of taking care of the psychological aspects of clients with physical disorders or disabilities of special and vulnerable groups.
